Declining birth rates and increasing life provide medium and long term to significant changes in the age structures of the labour force in the European Member States. In consequence, the European Member States are living a period of demographic change, causing an immediate impact on the structure of the labour force and also takes effect on the company and the industrial relations. In addition, specific changes are introduced to the industrial relations in the Member States, inter alia, by the alteration of the transition from work to retirement. The global economic crises may lead to changes in industrial relations, which today are hardly predictable.
